Donald Duck has changed

Monday, August 17th, 2009

I read, like most children in my country do when growing up, Donald Duck almost religiously. Donald Duck would always provide correct “learning to read” language, easily understandable story lines and recognizable characters. We always knew that Donald would get mad, his nephews would be smart, Mickey Mouse would be clever, Goofy would be, well, goofy etc. That is, at least, what I thought until finding this cartoon here. Its a strip for a Sunday newspaper in 1936 and horribly political incorrect. I find it funny, but this is probably not the message we want to send to our children.. :)

Good stuff from youtube

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

If you are like me, you spend some time surfing on youtube to see interesting, funny, thought provoking, mind opening and life altering (well, that’s a stretch, but you know what I mean) videos. There is undobtedly a lot of uninteresting, boring, stupid and mind numbing videos on youtube, but there are also some video creators and uploaders that have some thought behind the videos they make available.

I have found several users that I like, and here I will present one of them. There may be others in the future, but you have to start somewhere.

The user “bloodsuckingclown” is a fellow Norwegian an only had a few videos, as you can see in the gallery below. Describing these will mean less work for me and I get to explore the Tubepress plugin that will let you place galleries in your posts.

I like his, and I am only guessing its a he, take on the subjects – especially the one using Clint Mansells Lux Aeterna from the movie “Requiem for a dream“. The topic in this video is drug abuse and abusers, how one thing may lead to another and the despair many of these people experience.  Even so, there is still hope and the end is much more hopeful than the beginning. The music is wonderful and I can recommend the whole album. Don’t listen to it on a day you are feeling depressed, though..

The “Dead like me” video is taken from the movie “Dead like me: Life after death” but convey a somewhat sadder tone than the actual movie, in my opinion anyway. The beautiful music is “Boom boom ba” by Metisse, and you should also check out “Nomahs land” by the same group.

Blancmange was an 80s band that was fairly popular in Europe and combined with the underrated “They Live!” by John Carpenter make up a great combination of 80s sound and feel. Starring Rowdy Roddy Piper, the wrestler that was at the hight of his career in the later part of the decade.

Adolphson & Falk is a Swedish synthesizer pop band that was most popular in the 80s, but this is an acoustic version of one of their songs from that era. They are still playing live, but as I understand, with more use of analog instruments. Since Swedish is pretty similar to Norwegian I have no problem understanding the lyrics, but some of you English speakers may :)

Rupert Hine was also somewhat popular in the 80s, and as far as I know, there is no official video for this song. Bloodsuckingclown has made his own and combined the music with the urban graffiti artist Banksy. Personally I am not very fond of “street art” and “guerilla spray painting”, but I do like the statements made by Banksy in his paintings. There are a number of them featured in this video, underlining the lyrics and feel of the song. I think the combination is very good.

Roger Waters is the former vocalist and one of the creators of Pink Floyd, a band most should be familiar with. After the split from the group, Roger Waters persued a career on his own – and is now renowned as one of the great singer/songwriters. I think his music and lyrics are not for everybody, but the lyrics on “It’s a Miracle” are sadly poetic some 17 years after the release of the song. No video for this, only a few images.

That was really a long intro, but I do think that this music and these videos are worth a watch, so here we go:

Megan Fox promoting Jennifer’s body

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

Megan Fox, Diablo Cody, Karyn Kusama and Jason Reitman interviewed by Entertainment Weekly at Comic-Con 2009. Megan is explaining the set up of the movie Jennifer’s body an her geekyness -- fitting right in at the convention. Megan is giving us the basics of the movie, and my favorite quote from the interview is this: “She is not a virgin, she is not even a backdoor virgin“. :D

This movie will probably do very well at the box office on the first weekend, because of all of the hype, having Megan Fox do a sexy part, demons etc -- but it will only do well over time if its any good, and that remains to be seen. Looking forward to it though :)

Megan Fox Public Service Announcement Video

Friday, August 14th, 2009

I just love when actors and actresses take responsibility, come out of their bubble world and actually give something back to the community. Below is a public service announcement from Megan Fox about being yourself. I guess we can all agree that being in touch with yourself and letting everybody else see who you really are, is important.

I salute Megan for daring to be different and speaking about it, not everybody would be this brave.

LoL! This is of course a promotional video for the new movie she is starring in, Jennifer’s Body, that I found at Break.com. I did like the way this video looks like your run of the mill announcement about some eating disorder, bullying, sexual abuse victims or other valid causes -- and then just ….changes :D

I am, btw, allowed to write about her again after the boycott that was in effect a few days ago. I think perhaps that we all needed a little break from all the fuzz about her :)

Fat and lazy slobs

The future for all of us?

The future for all of us?

That’s what we are all becoming, according to a recent study in the UK, paid for by Nuffield Health Fitness Report and presented by Sky News. Actually the report should have been named the Nuffield Health lack of Fitness Report, because the results are depressing.

I do not live in the UK, btw, I live in Norway. Norway is probably still somewhat healthier than the UK, but every bad trend tend to follow this path: USA ->UK->Europe in general->Rest of the world. If people are fat in the USA, we are going to be fat in Europe within a decade or two. If everybody gets diabetes type 2 in the USA, we are all getting it shortly. Its unfortunate and sad, but true – and we do not have the common sense to see it coming and avoid it.

Anyway, the study shows that:

- Around one in six people said if their remote control was busted, they would rather just continue to watch whatever channel was on rather than getting up to change channel.

- About 59% of the 2 000 adults questioned would rather use the elevator than walk two flights of stairs to get to work.

- 36%  said they would not run to catch a bus.

- 28%  said that they would exercise more if it would make them more attractive to their partner.

According to ABC Nyheter, a Norwegian online newspaper, the study also showed the following:

- 73% were too exhausted at the end of a long day to have sexual intercourse.

- 52% of dog owners did not have the energy to walk their dog.

- 64% of parents did not have the energy to play with their children.

So our future is basically this: We are going to become fat, lazy slobs that spend all our time in front of the TV, not bothering to try to stay attractive for our partner, probably talking to, but not playing with, our fat and lazy children while our obese dog walks itself in the living room. After a while humanity will die out by itself, since we do not have the energy to make any more children, as this includes some good old fashion love making, and given this outlook – its probably for the best.

.. on a lighter note

Unless you have lived in a cave for the last 2-3 decades, you surely must have heard of Saturday Night Live, or SNL for short. Over the years anyone who is anyone has been a cast member, a guest host or guest performer on the weekly live show from New York. At the moment my favorite cast member is Andy Samberg, but they are all very, very good. Samberg has made or participated in a number of very funny music videos, and I thought it would be nice to share them with you here. If you have any suggestions for other funny videos with these guys, don’t hesitate to mention them in the comments. Life is too short and ugly to not have as much fun as possible!

Jizz in my pants

I guess some guys can relate to this :)

Dick in a box

The perfect gift? Some versions are censored, but here its allowed to say dick. Dick, dick, dick, dick! ;)

I’m on a boat

Natalie Portman Rap

You actually have to go to youtube to see the Natalie Portman and dick in a box song, as embedding is made difficult, but please do -- they are funny :) I need to check for a program that makes it possible to rip videos and store them locally.

When trying to find these videos from youtube.com I found that most of the hulu.com versions were censored. I have only added the uncensored ones, as we all know what they are saying anyway, even if the mouth is blurred and the speech is bleeped.. Why this censorship, do not people have dicks or fuck in the US? Ooops, sorry for my language.. I just wanted to (bleep) and (bleep) so that you could (bleep) ;D

Omer Bhatti – perhaps the son of Michael Jackson?

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

A couple of days ago I wrote a post about the Norwegian Omer Bhatti who spent a lot of time with Michael Jackson from 1996 and onward, staying at the Neverland ranch, tagging along on tours etc. My main focus then was how focused the media in my country was on Mr Bhatti and tried to connect stories to Michael, the children and basically anything. Today I noticed that Jermaine Jackson had been inverviewed by Larry King Live on CNN, on the 7th of August, stating the following regarding Omer Bhatti: “I really don’t know if he is Michaels son or not” about 2:33 into the clip.

Well, what to make of this? I really don’t know, since a brother should know who his nephews are -- and Jermanie obviously don’t.

Anyway, have a look at the below clip and make your own mind up -- it seems that the Michael Jackson saga continues..

Whaling or not?

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Why are everybody so damn politically correct all the time? Where is the healthy debate that spawns progress and new ideas, provokes though and emotions?

Today the band Modest Mouse published the video “King Rat” directed by the late Heath Ledger, and its definitely a kick in the groin of everybody positive to whaling or seal hunt, those who enjoy whale meat or other products that come from whales and seals. In the video the roles are changed somewhat in order to present the inhumane hunt for seals and whales that some countries still practice. My country is one of them and honestly, why is this a problem?

A whale is an animal like any other animal, it does not have greater value or a life more worthy than other animals. Cows, pigs, cats, hamsters, cods, dolphins and deer all have one life and its just as precious for them, as their life should be to us. Humans are on the top of the food chain and therefore eat just about everything that is below them, just like the animals under us will prey on animals even lower in the food chain. This is the nature of things and a constant.

Even though eating other animals comes naturally to us – why else would evolution provide us with sharp teeth – but we can also choose. I can choose to not eat animals, just like I can choose to not wear fur, leather belts or any other animal product. I can choose to not use medicine that is tested on animals and not keep pets. Having pets would be exploitation and torture of a free animal spirit if you follow this line of though. On the other hand, you can choose to do as most of us do, eat hamburgers, fish, go hunting, use leather coats, eat goose liver etc. This choice is also fine by me and the one that I have chosen.

Now then, why do some animals have a higher value than others? Why are whales more important to preserve or save than, say, rats? Personally I think they are of equal value and should be treated the same humane way and put down, if necessary to prevent infections and disease or provide meat, in the same humane way. This is not something that everybody agrees on, and some animals have a higher status or standing than others. I believe this comes from effective marketing by organizations like Greenpeace and PETA, not from careful evaluation. Whales are roaming the waters in great numbers. Not all types of whales, as some have been hunted too much for too long, but some of them are numerous enough to be hunted for food. Seals are in abundance on the ice in the polar regions, but since their cubs are pretty and look like stuffed animals, they also have a higher standing than uglier animals and should not, say the naysayers, be hunted.

What happens if we do not hunt them? Well, basically they first eat up most or all the fish that should be harvested for human food, and then many of them starve to death. Is that humane? I think not, and driving a nail through the head of a seal to kill it humanely is better for the preservation of the breed as a whole.

Hopefully some will disagree with me and post comments, but before you do: I do not condone inhumane treatment or killing of animals. Any killing should be done with as little suffering to the animal as possible – making kosher and halal meat unavailable unless the animal is tranquilized first.

How does that fit your view of the world?

Well, enough ranting. Have a look at the video. Personally I don’t like the music and I don’t think the Heath Ledger directed video is anything to write home about either. I guess that him being dead and getting an Oscar for the Batman movie makes him a genius or something.

Actually it fits nicely within this definition :)

Omer Bhatti – the non son of Michael Jackson

Omer Bhatti at the Michael Jackson funeral

Omer Bhatti at the Michael Jackson funeral

Norway does not have many internationally renowned celebrities, movie stars or artists, but we do have one and he is world famous in Norway :) Because of this fact, anything that makes Norwegians interesting is good stuff for our media.

In 1996 the then 12 year old Omer Bhatti from Oslo, Norway stood outside the hotel of Michael Jackson in Tunisia, dressed as his idol. After performing a few dance moves, Michael Jackson noticed him and invited the family to his room. As far as I know both mother, father and siblings were invited and it all resulted in the Bhatti family trailing the Jackson entourage all over the world for several years. The Bhattis also stayed at the Neveraland ranch with Jackson for long periods.

Still, unless Michael Jackson – in addition to being a shape shifter also can travel in time – he is not the father of Omer Bhatti, even though some UK tabloids has speculated about this “fact“.

Omer Bhatti travelled to Los Angeles immediately after the death of Michael Jackson, as he has a good relationship with Jacksons children. In the mayhem that ensued over there, I guess they needed a sane, calm and caring friend. Norwegian media has been climbing over one another to bring us information about the friendship between Bhatti and Jackson, and he has not made any statements to any media. He stated this on his ObeeGalaxy blog Just because you read it in a magazine or see it on the TV screen Don’t make it factual”

The above message has later been replaced by this:

lack

Omer Bhatti prefer to give no statements about his friend, their relationship and the connection he has with the Jackson children. I think this is a mature and correct decision, but that does not calm the press in any way.

Today one of our major newspapers, VG, stated the followning “news” over one full page in the paper issue – and I will translate the headline for you non norwegians out there: Went SHOPPING with the Jackson children.

Basically the story is this, and this is all it is: The Norwegian Omer Bhatti (25) has been shopping with the children of Michael Jackson – in identical shoes as the pop legends youngest son!” “Omer went shopping with Prince Michael Joseph Jackson Jr (12) and Prince Michael Jackson II (7) at the Barnes and Noble bookstore. Along with them was also the two children of Jermaine Jackson, Jaffar (13) and Jermajesty (9). Omer had the same shoes as Prince Michael Jackson II, aka “Blanket”.

Holy crap people, is this news or news worthy in any way, shape or form?? He had the same shoes! My God, stop the press! There is also a link to images on a blog somewhere, so we can all see the proof of this sensation. Liking the same shoes or clothes as an idols son is sufficient to fill a page in a national newspaper – at least in my country – but I suspect that its more or less the same all over.

It is now six weeks or so since Michael Jackson met his maker, and personally I am so utterly fed up with all the micro-news we have been presented with ever since. Michael Jackson had a pimple on his ass! Michael Jackson is gay and met his male lovers in sleazy hotels! Michael Jackson is not the father of his children! Michael Jackson was killed/took an overdose/had an accident/killed himself!

Its enough now, I am done – I think we all are. This latest “news” about the shoes was the drop for me. Its time to skip through anything bearing any resemblance to Michael Jackson news for a while. Its a shame, really, as the guy was gifted as an artist, although flawed as a person – and I fear that his legacy will be that of an eccentric, not an important recording and performance artist. I even experienced him live once, and there is no doubt that he was a fabulous entertainer.

Edit: In a recent interview with Larry King on CNN, Jermaine Jackson further the confusion by saying that he was unsure if Omer Bhatti was Michaels son or not.

Inglourious Basterds

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

According to justjared.com, Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino are on tour and arrived at Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin on Tuesday. The guys are currently traveling to promote the movie “Inglorious Basterds”, directed by Tarantino. According to imdb.com, the plot is something like this:

In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as “The Basterds” are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. The Basterds soon cross paths with a French-Jewish teenage girl who runs a movie theater in Paris which is targeted by the soldiers.

Below is the trailer for the film, enjoy:
